We start from Puerto Natales in a private car to go directly to the base of the hill (10 min aprox.). We arrive in the ranch of the family Paredes, in the sector called Cerro Dorotea where the guide will assign you the horse that corresponds to your knowledge in horseriding. Then the guide will give you a brief instructive safety chat to help you to have a correct and comfortable position during the ride.
We start going up the Hill Dorotea (800 m aprox. of height). After 1 ½ hrs, we reach the summit to have a rest, for us and the horses. From there we can enjoy an impressive view on Puerto Natales, the Fjord Ultima Esperanza, the Gulf Montt, the sector Dumestre and a great part of the Patagonian steppe of Argentina. Here the guide will introduce you a piece of history of the region and of the first pioneers and explorers who colonized these lands (snack). Probably the “baqueanos” will have their “yerbero” and invite you to taste the typical “mate” with them around a small fire.
From the summit of the hill, we could admire the majestic condor, which nests on the cliffs of the Hill and it will probably overfly us to check if we are not a possible food. The condors have a perfect fly in harmony with the wind, planning close to the cliff and approaching the horse a few meters off. After the break, we follow the edge of the hill, with a direct view on Puerto Natales, until we start going down to the house of the family Paredes, where you will be waiting for the classic “once del campo” (country lunch) with coffee or warm tea, served with the typical sopaipillas with sweet and butter. Tranfer to our house in Puerto Natales downtown, if you want.
